Bio
Jim Berardone is a special faculty member of Carnegie Mellon’s Master of Software Engineering programs. His teaching focuses on product management and business strategy.
Prior to joining MSE faculty, Jim spent more than seven years in CMU’s College of Engineering teaching product management to graduate students, and more than 20 years building technology businesses for five startups and three multinational companies through product management and customer development.
His interest in creating tech products began during his undergraduate study of civil engineering when his side-hustle was developing a video game. It was this experience that impressed upon him the importance of developing software that people not only wanted to use, but were willing to buy. He used an MBA degree to pivot to a product management career where he helped to create and launch 17 new B2B tech product lines. Along the way, he founded a professional education organization that trained over 1,000 professionals in the art and science of product management and innovation, which led to a second career in education.
On good days, you might see Jim biking around the streets of his hometown or traveling to a land far away.
